"I can barely hear you" turns into numbers: latency, loss, jitter, the route to Zoom and the proxy found. The check runs from the app, with no site visit and no remote access.
The Network Connectivity Tool is a network check built into Zoom Workplace. A user or an engineer starts it from the app, and within minutes it checks whether the device reaches Zoom services, by which route and with what quality. The report can be viewed on the spot or exported to a log for support.
There are several checks. Network information: adapter name, address, detected proxy. An MTR trace to Zoom servers showing every hop. The status of connections to the meeting and chat services. And the main one: a simulated VoIP call between the app and the Zoom system measuring latency, packet loss and jitter, the three values audio depends on.
The tool is in the app on Windows and macOS, in Zoom Rooms and their controllers, and in Zoom for VDI. In a meeting room the result goes to Zoom Support with one button.
"Zoom has poor quality" and "your network is poor" can be repeated for weeks. A report with latency and loss closes the conversation in a minute.
Latency, loss and jitter measured with a simulated real call. It is clear whether it is Zoom audio or the link to the provider.
The trace shows on which hop packets are lost: in the office, at the provider or further. The complaint goes to the right address.
The tool shows which proxy the traffic goes through and whether it reaches each service. A blocked port is visible at once.
Checks, platforms and working with the result
The status of connections to the meeting and chat services, each separately. You can see exactly what is unreachable.
The route from the device to Zoom servers hop by hop, with loss at each one. Classic diagnostics without a separate utility.
A test VoIP call between the app and the Zoom system. The result: RTT latency, packet loss, jitter.
Adapter name, IP address, detected proxy connections. It is immediately clear where the traffic comes from and what it passes through.
The Zoom Workplace app for Windows and macOS on a current version. Started from the settings, no administrator rights needed.
Zoom Rooms and controllers from version 6.6.0. The result goes to Zoom Support with the "Send problem report" button.
The tool also works for Zoom users on virtual desktops, where the network is the most complicated.
"View Results" shows the breakdown by check, "Export Log" exports the logs for support. The report is attached to the ticket.
Part of the Zoom Workplace app, not bought separately. Computers on a current version, Zoom Rooms and controllers from 6.6.0.
Wherever audio quality depends on a network that is not yours
Before the first big meeting, a check from the meeting room and a couple of desks. Ports and proxy are open, or it is known which are not.
The user runs the check themselves and sends the log. The engineer sees numbers, not a retelling of feelings.
A home network, mobile internet, a hotel. The report shows whether the connection should be changed or it is not the cause.
A check from the controller, the report to Zoom Support with one button. The engineer does not drive to the room for diagnostics.
A check from VDI shows whether media reaches the thin client directly or goes through the server.
We check the customer's network before launch, site by site, and draw up the list of ports and exceptions for the network team. When a ticket is raised we go through the report together. Then support in Russian.
They needed to deal with frequent internet outages that disrupted classes.
