Licences, plan limits and buying under contract: what is included, how many people fit and how to buy in Russia.
Zoom Meetings means video meetings: the thing Zoom is usually bought for. A staff meeting, a one-to-one, a lesson, a stand-up, an interview. If you are new to the platform, start with the Zoom glossary — it explains how a meeting differs from a webinar and what a personal meeting ID is.
Meetings is not sold on its own. It comes inside the Zoom Workplace licence, the single work platform that also carries chat, the whiteboard, notes, mail and calendar, tasks and short videos. Buying "Zoom for meetings" means buying Workplace.
The licence is needed by the person who hosts the meeting. Attendees join by link and need no licence, including people outside your company: clients, contractors, candidates. So the number to count is not headcount but the number of people who regularly schedule meetings. An assistant can schedule on behalf of an executive — that is what scheduling privilege is for.
The question that brings most people here: why the meeting cuts off after 40 minutes. It only does that on the free plan.

If you need more attendees than the plan allows, capacity is extended by the Large Meeting add-on, which can be bought on top of any paid plan.

What it costs in your case depends on the mix of licences, the number of users and the term. Call us or leave a request — we will work out what fits.
The whole screen, a single window or a browser tab. Several people can share at once if the host allows it. Everyone can draw and annotate on the shared screen together.
The host mutes microphones, promotes co-hosts, renames and removes people. Who gets into the room at all is decided by the waiting room — admission one by one, by hand.
The meeting splits into parallel groups for discussions, training or exams. Up to 100 rooms can be created and up to 1000 participants can be assigned to them in advance, before the meeting even starts. The maximum capacity requires the Large Meeting add-on; without it your plan sets the ceiling.
Locally to a computer or to the Zoom cloud. Cloud recording starts with the Pro plan, storage is 10 GB per user and can be extended separately. A cloud recording gets an automatic transcript and a link you can share. What to do with recordings afterwards, and who should see them, is covered in security of recorded negotiations.
In-meeting chat and polls. Messages, files and reactions as the conversation goes; a poll is launched inside the meeting and shows its result immediately. The discussion carries on in the Team Chat channel once the meeting is over.
Virtual background and green screen take the room out of the frame, with or without a physical green cloth. View modes decide who is shown large: the active speaker, everyone at once, or one pinned participant.
Noise suppression cuts background on the speaker's side. The rest is not the platform but the setting: the microphone, the room, headphones instead of speakers. Covered in five tips for good sound.
Simultaneous interpretation gives interpreters their own audio channels. Translated captions and speech transcription put it in text.
A meeting is scheduled from Zoom, Outlook or Google Calendar. For people outside the company there is Scheduler: a page of free slots where the other person picks a time themselves. Note that the Scheduler service runs on US and EU infrastructure.
A summary of the meeting and notes after it. The assistant is called ZoomMate; it runs on US infrastructure and in English only. Documents and spreadsheets assembled from meetings are AI Productivity Suite.
Access and encryption. Traffic encryption is on by default on every plan and cannot be switched off by a setting. Where the base level is not enough — a board meeting, a conversation carrying personal data — you add end-to-end encryption: keys are created on participants' devices and never leave them. Companies that need to hold the keys themselves have Customer Managed Key and the cryptographic boundary.
From the Business plan onwards you get what a corporate perimeter usually insists on: single sign-on, domain control and a choice of data storage region.
Rollout and connection quality. The client is deployed centrally as an MSI package, its behaviour is set by GPO policies, and it works in virtual desktops — usually the first question wherever staff sit on VDI.
The network is checked before the rollout rather than after the first meeting falls apart: a connectivity test shows whether the traffic gets through, while quality metrics and client-side diagnostics explain why the audio breaks up for one particular person. If the external link drops, the meeting is held inside the perimeter by a local node; to keep part of the load in house permanently there is Zoom Node in hybrid mode. Older meeting room equipment connects through the SIP/H.323 connector. For Russia there are also Zoom servers in Yandex Cloud.
Logs, reports and compliance. Users, groups and policies live in the admin console. What is happening to meetings right now is visible on the monitoring dashboard; how many licences are actually used is in the reports — and that is the report that usually shrinks the order at renewal time.
Regulated industries get archiving and eDiscovery, data loss prevention, information barriers and Compliance Manager.

Three Zoom products are counted in three different units, and that is where the money is usually lost. Meetings are counted by the people who schedule them. Webinars are counted per host, not per attendee. Meeting rooms are counted per room, not per person in it.
Hence two typical mistakes. The first: ordering meetings against the staff list — that is straight overpayment. The second: ordering rooms by the number of seats at the table — that is a shortfall, and it surfaces during installation.
