The director presses a button on the console, and in Zoom the right speaker is spotlighted, the spare microphones go quiet, screen sharing starts. The meeting is run by the same buttons as the lights and sound in the hall.
OSC, Open Sound Control, is the protocol spoken by consoles, lighting and sound desks and show automation systems. ZoomOSC is a Liminal app that receives OSC commands and controls the Zoom app. The meeting becomes one more device in the control room: a speaker is spotlighted with a button, microphones are muted by a QLab cue, the layout is changed by a Stream Deck macro.
Control goes both ways. ZoomOSC not only takes commands but also reports the meeting state and participant data, including the gallery order. So the automation knows who is speaking and who is where in the grid, and reacts on its own.
Paired with ZoomISO, which outputs isolated participant feeds to the broadcast, it makes a complete production: ZoomOSC decides who is in the frame, ZoomISO delivers their signal. Both are part of the Enhanced Media add-on.
A mouse in the Zoom interface cannot keep up with a show. A console can, if Zoom understands its commands.
