Zoom Node: Phone Local Survivabilitypaid

The internet is gone and the office phones still ring: extensions, transfer, conference, the city line through a local gateway. A Zoom Node in your network takes telephony over until the connection is back.

What it is

Zoom Phone lives in the cloud, and an internet outage usually means silence in the handsets. The Phone Local Survivability module, ZPLS, is installed on a Zoom Node in your network and keeps basic telephony running while the cloud is unreachable. Phones and apps on site register with the node and keep working.

What is kept: internal extension dialing, contact search and dialing, hold and resume, DTMF, blind and consult transfer, ad hoc three-party conference, call park. Inbound and outbound calls to the public network are possible too, if the site has a session border controller, an SBC, connected to a local carrier or a local PBX.

If the company has several sites and their nodes share a common network, calls between sites continue during the outage as well. The module takes one of the node's four slots and sits alongside Meetings Hybrid, so one Zoom Node covers both meetings and telephony.

A phone that does not depend on the provider

Cloud telephony is convenient right up to the first backbone outage. Survivability gives it back the property of an ordinary phone: it always rings.

Internal calls as usual

Employees dial short numbers, look up colleagues, transfer calls. Nobody notices the cloud is unreachable.

The city line through a gateway

With an SBC and a local carrier, calls in and out continue. Customers get through while the connection is repaired.

Several sites together

Site nodes connected by a common network call each other during the outage too. Branches do not lose each other.

Extensions

Licensing and availability

The module is licensed separately, paid. A Zoom Node on site, Zoom Phone licences for users, and for the city line an SBC and a contract with a local carrier are needed.
