Every Zoom client, meeting room and phone device in one list. Updates and settings go to a group of devices, not to each one in turn.
Zoom Device Manager is the Device Management section of the Zoom web portal. The administrator sees the whole fleet in it: Zoom Workplace clients on Windows, macOS and Linux, mobile apps on iOS and Android, Zoom Rooms with their controllers, Zoom Phone appliances and VDI clients. Each device shows its name, serial number and app version.
Two jobs it is installed for. First, updates. The app and the operating system of a meeting room are updated by the administrator from the portal, not by an engineer with a USB stick in the room. Second, settings. A policy is assigned to a group of devices, and the items a user must not change can be locked in it.
ZDM does not replace everything. SIP and H.323 equipment lives in Conference Room Connector, desk phones in the phone system section, VDI plugins in their own console. Zoom advises managing each setting by one method and not mixing ZDM with Windows group policies without need.
Ten meeting rooms and three hundred laptops. Without a console every update is a week of an engineer's work.
A new app version or firmware goes to a group of meeting rooms from the portal. For Windows the administrator chooses which patches to install.
The policy is assigned to a group and locked. The user will not switch on what the security team has forbidden, on any device.
A list with name, serial number, version and location. Export to a file for inventory and audit.
From enrolling a device to auditing the fleet
Zoom Workplace on Windows, macOS and Linux, mobile apps on iOS and Android. Clients come under management through group enrolment.
Rooms on Apple and Windows are enrolled through MDM, Zoom Rooms appliances work with ZDM out of the box. A device can be pre-assigned to a room before installation.
Zoom Phone devices from the Zoom certification programme are updated from the same console. Desk phones stay in the phone system section.
Remote update of the app and the operating system, for Windows with a choice of patches. The fleet does not drift apart by version.
A device belongs to a group, the group gets its own settings set. Different departments, different rules.
A setting locked in ZDM stands above Windows group policies and MSI installer parameters. The user cannot argue with it.
Web portal settings are inherited top down. A group administrator cannot override what is locked at account level.
Restrictions are tied to the user and apply on any client they sign in to. The policy is switched on through Zoom Support.
Search by name, serial number and version, restart and remove a device, export the list. Import devices from a CSV file, up to 1,000 rows at a time.
A network profile is assigned from the System Config section. Meeting rooms are arranged in a hierarchy: country, city, campus, building, floor. A log records who changed what.
Owner or administrator rights on the Zoom account are needed. Zoom's documentation mentions no separate licence. For personal mobile devices Zoom recommends MDM or MAM, which ZDM does not replace.
Wherever there are more Zoom devices than you can walk to
All Zoom Rooms in one hierarchy by city and building. An update goes to the whole building at once, the log shows who changed what.
A ban on recording, file transfer or chat is locked in ZDM. Neither a group policy nor the user can cancel it.
No SCCM, Intune or their equivalent? For certified Zoom Rooms devices ZDM covers management by itself.
Sales, support and management in different groups with different settings sets. One console, three policies.
Export of the list with serial numbers and versions for an inspection. Import of a new fleet from a file after a move or a purchase.
Inventory of the fleet, splitting into groups, agreeing settings sets with IT and security, enrolling devices and training the administrator. Then support in Russian.
Client features had to be restricted and different policies assigned to different groups; otherwise there was a risk of data leakage.
We'll give you a remote demo Monday to Friday, 10:00–16:00 Moscow time, answer all your questions and provide trial access so you can explore the system yourself.
